Arc of Hope’s newest program is a scholarship for Saint Joan of Arc Uganda graduates — supporting top-performing students from the impoverished Mawuuki area with tuition, room and board for high school and college so they can secure meaningful careers.
To date, Arc of Hope has supported 36 students. Ten have received college diplomas with degrees in medicine, nursing, education, business, social science, civil engineering and biotechnology. As of August 2026, there are 15 high-school and 11 college scholarship students.
In addition to tuition and board assistance, scholarship students receive laptops and other school supplies to ensure their ability to complete research and online learning requirements in their respective disciplines.
SJA Uganda staff provide counseling in career development, mental health, and psychological well-being, with regular visits to schools and colleges to monitor progress and address needs. Staff also assist with post-graduate job counseling.
Overall, these students delivered outstanding performance, with several earning special sponsorships and recognitions for academic and extracurricular excellence.
These accomplishments equip them not only to graduate, but to thrive — turning potential into real-world contributions.
Meet some of our scholars:
Lawrence was studying nursing at Mbarara University when he was offered admission to study Medicine and Surgery at Kabale University. The scholarship let him seize the opportunity. He is on track to complete his classroom studies in May 2027.
John finished his education degree requirements and received his Bachelor of Science from Makerere University in Kampala in January 2025. He has a job at a large high school and hopes to make a positive impact on Ugandan education.
Felix has completed his coursework for a Nursing Certificate from Kampala University. He is employed at a clinic and is working with colleagues to obtain a permit to open their own health facility.
Joseph completed his bio-technology coursework at Makerere University in Kampala. Currently he is doing research supporting a cancer treatment and outcome census.
Daniel finished his Technology-Physics studies at Kyambogo University. He is working on the design of a soil moisture sensor.
In April 2026, Francis finished his classroom studies and received his diploma from Ndejje University for a four-year Civil Engineering degree. Francis is from Mawuuki, and he is the definition of resilience. He studied at SJA for four years, and in his final year his father abandoned him with nothing. Given his good character and strong class performance, SJA staff “adopted” him — counseling him on high school and university admission and letting him live and work at SJA during school breaks. The Arc of Hope scholarship program kept his dream alive.
Betty completed her Social Sciences program at Makerere University and received her Bachelor of Arts diploma in January 2025. Her goal is to assist children from single-parent homes like hers.
