Father Simon Peter celebrated Easter mass at St. Athanasius Church, Mawuuki, Uganda on Sunday, March 31, 2024. Boarding students, still in the middle of Term 1, and local parishioners worshiped together and witnessed the new Easter candle donated by St. Athanasius School, Evanston.
To celebrate Catholic Schools Week in January 2024, the principal of St. Athanasius school, Evanston, wanted to instill lessons around service to the larger community. For a $1 donation, the students could wear red, their school's color on January 31. At the student mass, $345 was collected and used to purchase an Easter Candle for St Athanasius Church in Mawuuki!
At the end of mass, Deb Clamage, Arc of Hope board member, gave a short presentation about the origin of the Ugandan school and the rebuilding of the church, and expressed gratitude for the students' generosity.
